How do I take care of my candle?
Before the first use and all subsequent uses, be sure to always keep the wooden wick between 1/4 and 1/8 of an inch.
You can remove the burnt wood with a wick trimmer, a tissue, or your fingers.

What is my candle made of?
Late Afternoons candles are made from coconut soy wax. This blend of natural wax is safe for the skin, vegan, and contains no toxicity. These fragrances are of the highest quality and are non-toxic and free of carcinogens. The candles are handmade in Quebec in small quantities at a time. Their unique and colorful design fits well in any environment and place.
What kind of wicks do you use?
We use natural crackling wicks. Our wicks are eco-friendly, clean-burning, and hand-crafted. They are also made from FSC Certified Wood.
What’s in Late Afternoons fragrances?
We use a blend of essential oils and natural and synthetic fragrances. All our fragrances are non-toxic and of high quality. Our fragrance oils are phthalate-free and environmentally friendly.

What is the refund and the return policy?
All of our products are carefully inspected and sanitized before shipment. Due to our products' nature (natural ingredients), all opened packages and used candles cannot be returned.

Please contact us at info@latefaternoons.ca if your merchandise was damaged during shipment within 48 hours of receiving your order. We will exchange or refund your product with provided documentation/photography of the damage.

Why do we use wooden wicks over cotton wicks?
Wooden wicks have several advantages over cotton wicks. One of the main advantages is that they produce a crackling sound while burning, which some people find pleasing. This sound is similar to a campfire or fireplace and can add to the ambiance of a room.
Additionally, wooden wicks tend to be thicker than cotton wicks, which can result in a longer burn time for the candle.
Another advantage of wooden wicks is that they can help to improve the fragrance throw of a candle. The wood fibers in a wooden wick absorb fragrance oil better than cotton fibers, which can result in a stronger scent being released while the candle is burning.
How to trim a wooden wick ?
Trimming a wooden wick is an important step in maintaining a candle's burn performance. Here are the general steps to trim a wooden wick:
1: Before trimming the wick, wait for the candle to cool down and solidify. This will make it easier to trim the wick without getting wax all over your scissors.
2: Look for the blackened portion of the wick, which is the part that has been consumed by the flame.
3: Use sharp scissors or wick trimmers to trim the blackened portion of the wick to about 1/8 inch (3mm) above the wax surface.
4: Keep an eye on the wick while the candle is burning and trim it again if it becomes too long or starts to smoke.
5: Make sure to keep the wick centered in the candle as it burns. If the wick becomes skewed or starts to lean to one side, it can cause uneven burning and possible fire hazard.
*It's important to note that after trimming the wick, it's best to let the candle burn for at least an hour so the melt pool can reach the edge of the container, this will prevent the candle from tunneling.
Why do I have black specs in my candle after trimming?
Trimming the wick while the wax is still in its liquid state may inadvertently lead to soot formation in your candle for several reasons. When the wax is liquid, the wick is submerged, absorbing more wax than it can efficiently burn. This excess wax can contribute to a larger flame and increased soot production.
Furthermore, trimming the wick while the wax is still liquid can cause the wick to be coated in liquid wax. This coating may impede the proper ignition of the wick, potentially leading to suboptimal burning conditions and further contributing to soot formation.
Additionally, trimming the wick in its liquid state can result in the wick leaning or skewing, promoting uneven burning and elevating the risk of soot development. For the best candle-burning experience and to minimize soot, we recommend trimming the wick when the wax has solidified.
How to avoid this issue ?
To avoid this issue, it's important to wait for the wax to solidify before trimming the wick. Trim the wick to the proper length (about 1/8 inch or 3mm) and make sure to keep the wick centered while the candle is burning. It's also important to keep an eye on the wick and trim it again if it becomes too long or starts to smoke.
Why is my wooden wick making noise?
- A wooden wick can make a crackling noise when it burns for a few reasons. The crackling sound is caused by the wood fibers in the wick contracting and expanding as they absorb and release moisture
- Wooden wicks are made by compressing thin strips of wood together, which can create small pockets of air between the fibers. When the wick burns, these pockets of air can burst and create a crackling sound.
- It's also important to note that if the wick becomes too long, it will make a louder noise than a well-trimmed wick. A wick that is too long can also cause the candle to burn unevenly and produce more soot. So make sure to trim the wick to the proper length before lighting the candle.
